Word of Mouth Films create video legacies, sometimes called video biographies or personal histories, for families and friends of treasured people. We are based in the UK.

The importance of recorded legacies.
In recent years, the methods we use to record and store the occasions we cherish, the songs that evoke memories and the events involving the people we love have changed greatly and irreversibly.

Where we once used cine and celluloid to record scenes from our lives, we now use digital, CD and DVD. Where we once processed film to capture and keep an image in the form of a photograph, we now store similar images on our home computers, never to print them out.

Sociologists and chroniclers have recognised this trend. At one time, we gathered information on our friends, relatives and ancestors from photographs found in attics, in boxes, in newspapers and the bottom of drawers in long-forgotten bureaux; or perhaps from fading "home movies" or videos. In this way, we built up a picture of who our predecessors were, and ultimately, how we came to be here. We marvel at the likenesses in physiognomy, smile at the changes in fashions and become wistful at the images of long lost loved ones who died too soon, too young, or simply slipped away while we weren't looking.

If only we could bring them back.

Word of Mouth Films is dedicated to preserving the memories of our senior generation - the people who lived, played and worked through an era so very different from today. Childhood, school, work, military service, courtship, marriage and family all played their part in creating a complex and wonderful tapestry of memories and it is vital that we preserve these for future generations.
